Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will survive its current political turbulence, urging party loyalists to prioritise unity over ego and greed.

Wike made the remarks in Abuja on Monday while hosting the “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP” a gathering of party leaders from all 36 states and the FCT.
The high-level meeting drew prominent PDP figures, including former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), alongside National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu and former Senate Minority Leader Senator Philip Aduda. Also in attendance were several ex-lawmakers and current zonal and state executives.
In his address, Wike praised the stakeholders for their commitment to the party’s future. “All of you here are those who are committed to the survival of our party, not just talking on television or in the newspapers, but committed to the party at various levels,” he said.
Wike reiterated his defence of the G5 Governors’ actions during the 2023 general elections, insisting that their decisions helped stabilise Nigeria’s fragile democracy.
“You may like us, you may hate us; the truth of the matter is if G5 did not take the decision we took, this country would have been in crisis,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter who the beneficiary was, but the right thing had to be done, and we still stand by that decision.”
He emphasised the importance of respecting the party’s constitution and cautioned against impunity within the opposition ranks.
“No opposition party should act with impunity. Ours is to continue to pacify people and bring them together,” he added.
Wike’s warning:“Let us not allow greed; let us not allow ego to kill our party.”
Former Governor Samuel Ortom echoed the sentiment, saying Wike remained one of the PDP’s most consistent and generous contributors.
“He who pays the piper dictates the tune,” Ortom stated, challenging anyone to rival Wike’s investment in the party’s growth.
He also praised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Wike as FCT Minister, citing it as recognition of the need to maintain a multi-party democracy.

“President Tinubu understands that Nigeria should not be a one-party state, and that’s why Wike is where he is today,” Ortom said.
