The announcement was made on Friday at a press conference in Abuja by the Commission’s Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan.
Prof. Amupitan criticised earlier media reports that inaccurately suggested the timetable had already been issued.
He clarified that the release complies fully with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022, as amended.
Under the approved schedule, the presidential election is slated for 20 February 2027, while governorship, senatorial, and other legislative elections will take place on 6 March 2027.
The timetable marks the formal start of preparations for the electoral cycle, providing political parties, candidates, and electoral stakeholders with clear guidance for campaign planning and logistical arrangements.
INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting transparent, credible, and timely elections, emphasising that all activities will adhere to established legal frameworks to ensure the integrity of the process.
