Abba Kabir Yusuf defection claim to APC surfaces as Kano official alleges past talks involving Governor Yusuf, President Tinubu, and political allies
The Kano State Government has made a controversial Abba Kabir Yusuf defection claim APC, alleging that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf once explored the possibility of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the consent of key political figures in the state.

The claim was made, by the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, during an appearance on the Arise TV Morning Show in Abuja.
According to Bature, the alleged discussions involved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and were part of broader political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He stated that Governor Yusuf had at some point approached President Tinubu regarding a possible defection into the APC, adding that the move reportedly had the backing of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
Abba Kabir Yusuf defection claim APC has since sparked political conversations, with observers noting that it reflects ongoing realignments and behind-the-scenes negotiations as the next election cycle approaches.
Bature, however, stressed that many of the reported political alignments remain part of broader discussions and should not yet be taken as confirmed agreements.
