Abba Yusuf Intensifies Security Push as Tinubu Deploys Team

Abba Yusuf security push strengthens as Tinubu deploys a specialised team to Kano amid rising border attacks

KANO, Nigeria, 4 December 2025: Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has intensified coordinated security operations across vulnerable communities following President Bola Tinubu’s directive for the deployment of a specialised security team to address rising banditry along the Kano–Katsina corridor.

The move followed a briefing the governor delivered to the President on the escalating security situation affecting several border communities.

According to statements issued on Tuesday and Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, Governor Yusuf said the President immediately recognised the severity of the threat and authorised reinforcements to strengthen ongoing operations.

The governor noted that arrangements were underway to enhance mobility, logistics and operational support for security agencies confronting armed groups.

During an assessment tour of Joint Task Force bases in Tsanyawa and Shanono, Governor Yusuf announced plans to acquire drones and additional logistics to boost surveillance and rapid response capabilities.

He said the incursion of bandits into border communities had led to abductions, killings and growing fear among residents, describing the situation as alarming.

Governor Yusuf urged residents to support security operatives with actionable intelligence, stressing that community-based information remained one of the most powerful tools for preventing attacks.

He also charged the JTF to intensify efforts toward securing the release of kidnapped residents from Tsanyawa and Shanono, assuring families that the state government remained committed to their safe return.

On Tuesday, the governor paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Zahra Allalai, who was killed during a bandit attack on Kamaye village. He described her death as a painful loss to both her community and the state.

At Forward Operating Bases across the affected areas, Commander of 3 Brigade, Brigadier General A. M. Tukur, briefed the governor on recent encounters, including a November ambush in which two soldiers and a vigilante were killed and two military gun trucks destroyed.

Brigadier General Tukur said troops remained resolute despite armed groups retreating deeper into border settlements.

Governor Yusuf confirmed that President Tinubu had directed the Chief of Army Staff to deploy additional personnel and equipment.

He reassured troops of continued government support, vowing to confront what he called a widening infiltration by armed men.
