Accord Party Pledges Full Compliance with Electoral Act Amendments

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, the party confirmed it had commenced its national e-registration and membership revalidation exercise.

The statement urged members across the country, including those in the diaspora and prospective members, to take advantage of the exercise to register and obtain new membership cards.

The leadership also advised members who joined under the previous registration framework to participate in the fresh exercise, noting that additional data is now required under the revised law.

“This aligns with the new electoral governance framework, which establishes a digital membership register to identify genuine members of our great party and to accredit them for congresses, primaries and conventions as we diligently prepare for the 2027 general election,” the statement read.

The party directed ward, local government, state and zonal executives to mobilise members to ensure a seamless process, describing time as a critical factor ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The development follows the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026, which introduced compulsory electronic membership registration for political parties.

The move has triggered debate within opposition circles.

The African Democratic Congress recently cautioned that the new requirement could narrow the democratic space if not carefully implemented.
