ADC Accuses APC of Plot to Impose Nafiu Bala Gombe

ADC Accuses APC Plot to pressure INEC to recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe as chairman despite expulsion, the party says

The African Democratic Congress has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of attempting to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe as the party’s National Chairman.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the ADC said Nafiu Bala Gombe is an expelled member of the party and alleged that the move forms part of a broader attempt to create confusion within the opposition platform.

The statement, signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the alleged move as a calculated effort by elements within the ruling party to destabilise the ADC.

Bolaji Abdullahi accused the administration of Bola Tinubu of attempting to weaken what he called the “only viable opposition platform left in the country”.

The ADC spokesman said the development was “part of the elaborate plot by the ruling party to ensure that Tinubu emerges unopposed as the only serious contender on the ballot in 2027”.

He maintained that there was no legal basis for any leadership dispute within the party, stressing that the ADC leadership remains under David Mark.

According to him, the position was reaffirmed during a combined meeting of the National Working Committee and National Executive Committee in July 2025, a session that was witnessed by officials of the electoral commission.

The party vowed to resist what it described as attempts by anti democratic forces to undermine competitive politics in Nigeria.

“We will employ every legitimate means to resist plots aimed at weakening democratic opposition and ending competitive democracy in the country,” the statement said.
