Sunday Dare Defends APC, Denies Role in ADC Crisis

Sunday Dare denies APC involvement in ADC crisis, stating the opposition’s challenges are self-inflicted and not influenced by the ruling party

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Sunday Dare, has dismissed allegations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is responsible for the internal challenges within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reinforcing an ADC crisis APC denial during a televised interview.

Dare maintained that the ruling party has no involvement in the leadership dispute affecting the opposition party. He stated that the APC is not the architect of the crisis and should not be blamed for issues arising within the ADC.

Dare further argued that political parties must take responsibility for their internal organisation, noting that building a strong and cohesive political structure requires time, commitment and deliberate effort.

He suggested that shortcuts in party development often lead to instability and internal conflict.

Reacting to concerns surrounding the deregistration of the David Mark-led faction of the ADC by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dare emphasised that the federal government remains committed to upholding democratic rights and freedoms.

He added that citizens, including journalists, continue to express opinions freely without interference, underscoring what he described as the openness of the current political environment.

Dare also dismissed suggestions that there were plans to restrict electoral participation to only the APC in the 2027 general elections, describing such claims as unfounded.

He stressed that the responsibility of organising and strengthening political parties lies with their respective leaderships rather than the federal government.

He reiterated that political development requires sacrifice, discipline and sustained effort, urging opposition parties to focus on internal cohesion rather than attributing their challenges to external influences.
