ADC leadership crisis deepens as state chairmen back INEC’s decision to delist the David Mark-led faction, insisting Dumebi Kachikwu remains the authentic leader
The leadership crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has deepened as state chairmen of the party have backed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to delist the David Mark-led leadership.

Abia State ADC Chairman, Don Norman Obinna, made the position known at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the state chairmen had distanced themselves from both the David Mark and Nafiu Bala Gombe-led factions of the party following a National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja.
“We are in total support of INEC in derecognizing the David Mark-led faction,” Obinna said, flanked by other state chairmen.
He insisted that the authentic leadership of the party remains under its 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu.
“ADC has no faction; we are the legal leadership,” he added.
INEC had last week delisted the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC, a move that was rejected by the Mark-led group, which accused the commission of attempting to undermine democracy and push Nigeria towards a one-party state.

The faction also maintained that the party would continue its planned congresses and national convention scheduled between April 7 and 14, 2026.
