ADC denies explosive APC backing claims in faction row

ADC faction APC support denial as Bashiru Mohammad dismisses claims of APC backing, insisting the dispute is being handled through the courts

Acting National Publicity Secretary of the All Democratic Congress, Bashiru Mohammad, has firmly denied allegations that the Nafiu Bala faction of the party is receiving support from the ruling All Progressives Congress, describing the claims as unfounded and politically motivated.

The ADC faction APC support denial comes amid an ongoing internal leadership dispute within the party, which has seen rival camps contest recognition and legitimacy.

Mohammad dismissed the allegations as an attempt to weaken his faction’s position in its legal battle against the group aligned with former Senate President David Mark.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Mohammad stated that as the party’s official spokesperson, he would be aware of any external financial or political backing if such existed.

He insisted that no credible evidence had been presented to substantiate the claims.

He recalled that when the Independent National Electoral Commission initially recognised the David Mark-led faction, his group faced criticism and was dismissed by opponents as “time wasters.”

Despite the setback, he said the faction chose to pursue redress through legal channels rather than engage in public confrontation.

According to Mohammad, the party’s current position is clear and focused on compliance with judicial authority.

He emphasised that the ADC is requesting INEC to adhere to a valid court order, halt recognition of what he described as an unapproved faction, and restore leadership in line with the party’s constitution.

He reiterated that the faction remains committed to resolving the leadership crisis through the courts, stressing that the party is prioritising due process over public disputes.

His remarks highlighted a deliberate strategy to maintain composure while pursuing what he described as a lawful and structured resolution.
