Thugs Burn ADC Office Ahead of Amaechi Registration

ADC office burning in Rivers after suspected thugs torch party ward office hours before Rotimi Amaechi’s planned registration

Suspected political thugs have set ablaze a ward office of the African Democratic Congress in Ubima community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, just hours before former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi was scheduled to register with the party at the ward level.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday, when the attackers targeted the ADC facility that housed materials intended for local party activities.

A video circulating online showed the office engulfed in flames as residents criticised security personnel at the scene for failing to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the destructive attack.

The incident has heightened tensions in the community, particularly because the assault took place shortly before Amaechi’s anticipated appearance for his formal registration with the African Democratic Congress.

As of the time of filing this report, Rotimi Amaechi had arrived in Port Harcourt ahead of the registration exercise, which party supporters say is expected to draw significant attention in Rivers State politics.

Political observers suggest the ADC office burning could further intensify political rivalries in the state, where party realignments and new alliances have recently gained momentum.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident, and no arrests had been confirmed at the time of reporting.
