ADC Slams APC Over 2027 Focus Amid Nigeria Hardship

ADC slams APC over 2027 focus as Bolaji Abdullahi accuses the ruling party of ignoring insecurity, hunger and economic hardship in Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of prioritising the 2027 general elections over tackling Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, made the accusation on Thursday, 10 July 2026, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he criticised the government’s response to rising insecurity, hardship and food concerns across the country.

Abdullahi claimed that Nigeria was facing serious difficulties under the APC-led administration and argued that the government’s priorities were misplaced.

“For God’s sake, the country is sinking on a daily basis under their watch,” Abdullahi said during the interview. He also referred to reports on hunger levels in the country, arguing that the scale of food insecurity required a stronger response from government officials.

The ADC spokesperson questioned what he described as the government’s limited public response to economic pressures affecting millions of Nigerians, including rising living costs and insecurity.

He said democracy should be centred on improving citizens’ welfare and accused the administration of failing to adequately address issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.

“If you listen to them, they have only one problem today; not these kidnappings, not this insecurity, not the hunger, not the cost of living,” Abdullahi said, adding that political discussions around the 2027 elections appeared to have taken priority over governance challenges.

The comments come as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition groups increasingly criticising the APC over its handling of economic and security issues.

The ruling APC has, however, consistently defended its policies, pointing to ongoing reforms and government programmes aimed at improving economic stability, infrastructure and social support.

Abdullahi maintained that the ADC would continue presenting itself as an alternative political platform, saying members of the party remained committed to offering a different direction for Nigeria.

The criticism reflects the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 polls, where economic management, security and citizens’ welfare are expected to remain key issues shaping public discussion.
