ADC Warns of Alleged Plot to Arrest Amaechi

ADC warns of a plot to arrest former Minister Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, urging caution amid rising political tensions in Rivers State

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has raised alarm over what it described as a potential plot to arrest former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The warning was issued on Friday by ADC Rivers State publicity secretary, Luckyman Egila.

Egila drew parallels with the recent detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, suggesting that opposition figures like Amaechi have become targets amid Nigeria’s current political climate.

“While some may dismiss it as a rumour, the political context makes it a real concern,” Egila said.

“El-Rufai’s arrest demonstrates that the government is scrutinising opposition leaders. ADC remains a primary target because of our efforts to challenge the ruling party.”

The ADC spokesperson emphasised the party’s commitment to lawful conduct while signalling vigilance. ‘

“We are yet to receive formal confirmation of any arrest. However, we are closely monitoring the situation and hope it does not escalate, as Nigerians are also watching,” he added.

Egila warned that any attempts to detain opposition figures could heighten political tensions and called for restraint, highlighting the party’s role in promoting democratic accountability.

The warning comes at a time of heightened political sensitivity in Nigeria, with opposition parties increasingly vocal against perceived governmental overreach.
