2027: Adebayo’s Camp Faults Tinubu Over Campaign Absence

Adebayo’s camp faults Tinubu’s reported campaign absence and urges Nigerians to assess 2027 candidates by their policies and plans

The Movement Adebayo for President (MAP), a support group for Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his reported decision not to participate directly in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign tour ahead of the 2027 general election.

MAP urged Nigerians to scrutinise the presidential candidates and assess their policy proposals, governing philosophies and plans for addressing the country’s economic and security challenges.

The group made its position known in a statement titled, ‘Choosing Between President Tinubu and Citizen Adebayo: A Social Democratic Manifesto That Signposts National Redemption’.

According to MAP, presidential candidates should engage directly with voters and explain how they intend to address the challenges facing the country.

The group said Tinubu’s reported decision to focus on governance while the APC Presidential Campaign Council handles campaign activities raises questions about direct engagement between candidates and the electorate.

MAP also called on APC governors and party leaders to consider national interests in their political calculations, citing concerns about Nigeria’s economic and security situation.

Rather than focusing solely on party affiliations, the group encouraged voters to examine the policy commitments of all presidential candidates before making their decisions in the 2027 election.

MAP presented Adebayo’s manifesto, Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity, as the foundation of his proposed approach to governing Nigeria.

The group said the policy document covers 12 priority areas, including national security, food security, electricity, affordable energy, jobs and enterprise, education and skills development, healthcare, infrastructure, innovation, transparent government, national unity and international relations.

According to MAP, the manifesto contains a four-year delivery framework designed to establish measurable targets and allow citizens to track the performance of a potential Adebayo administration.

For the first 100 days, the proposed plan includes establishing a Presidential Delivery and Performance Office to monitor government programmes and assess progress against stated objectives.

The framework also proposes directing ministries, departments and agencies to implement the objectives contained in Chapter II of the 1999 Constitution.

MAP said baseline assessments would also be conducted across key sectors, including security, electricity, food, healthcare, education and infrastructure.

The proposed framework includes transparency measures for public procurement and expenditure, federal-state delivery agreements and the publication of a presidential performance dashboard.

The group said these measures would provide citizens with clearer mechanisms for monitoring government performance and strengthening accountability.

For the first year, MAP said an Adebayo administration would prioritise security, essential services, agricultural production and domestic energy supply.

It said the plan would also include priority electricity and transport projects, alongside youth skills development and employment programmes.

For the second and third years, the manifesto proposes expanding industrial clusters and infrastructure projects while improving electricity distribution.

Other proposed areas of investment include irrigation, food storage and processing, pharmaceutical production, technology, manufacturing, rail transportation, broadband, housing and water supply.

By the fourth year, MAP said the proposed administration would focus on completing priority projects, strengthening successful programmes through permanent institutions and publishing audited performance reports.

An end-of-term scorecard would also be presented to Nigerians, according to the group.

MAP said social democracy, cooperative federalism, evidence-based governance, public-private sector collaboration and citizen participation would form part of Adebayo’s proposed governing philosophy.

It also identified transparency, accountability and access to basic necessities as central elements of the manifesto.

The group urged Nigerians to obtain and examine the policy document and compare the commitments of the various presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 election.
