Adeleke Says APC Lacks Tinubu’s Backing in Osun Election

Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke says APC lacks President Tinubu’s support, urging voters to ignore federal threats ahead of August 15 governorship poll

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has told members of the Accord Party that the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not enjoy the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke cautioned the APC against invoking the president’s name to influence the outcome of the August 15 poll, criticising what he described as threats to deploy “federal might” during the elections.

“The governor berated the Osun APC for dragging President Bola Tinubu’s name in the mud through its constant vow to deploy federal institutions to rig forthcoming elections, clarifying that Mr President, as a democrat, is not involved in such anti-democratic boasts,” the statement read.

Adeleke noted that the president is using federal power to implement good governance projects, such as the reconstruction of the Ibadan-Ilesa road, loan programmes for students, and discussions on state policing, emphasising that neither Tinubu nor top federal officials support threats by the Osun APC to disrupt the polls.

“The people of Osun are passionate about free and fair elections. Your votes will determine the winners. No force can override the people and God. Ignore those threatening you with federal power. They don’t have the support of Mr President,” Adeleke said.

The governor addressed leaders and ward officials of the enlarged Accord Party across the state’s 332 wards, urging members to market their manifestoes and engage voters rather than rely on coercion.
