Adeleke urges Osun voters to reject APC, accusing the opposition of poor workers’ welfare record ahead of the August 15 governorship election
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Accord governorship candidate, has urged voters to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 15 August governorship election, accusing the opposition party of neglecting civil servants during its previous administration in the state.

Adeleke made the appeal in a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, where he asked eligible voters to support his re-election bid and maintain what he described as a path of improved governance and workers’ welfare.
Adeleke message centred on allegations that public workers suffered hardship under the previous APC administration, particularly over the payment of half salaries, a claim that has remained a major political issue in Osun’s recent history.
“We will not allow APC to take Osun back to the days when civil servants had to beg their neighbours for food,” Adeleke said.
The governor alleged that many workers struggled to meet basic needs during the previous administration, accusing the APC of using economic hardship as a political tool.
“Those who once weaponised poverty by paying workers half salaries, leaving civil servants to struggle to feed their families, and denying our people access to basic necessities are desperate to return to inflict more pain. We must never go back to those dark days,” he added.
Adeleke called on residents to participate in the election and support what he described as a commitment to progress, compassion and good governance.
“On August 15, I urge every eligible voter to send a clear and resounding message that Osun has chosen the path of progress, compassion, and good governance. Together, we will protect the mandate of the people and keep Osun moving forward,” he said.
The governor also defended his administration’s record on workers’ welfare, stating that improving the living conditions of civil servants has remained a central focus since he assumed office.
“APC’s disdain for civil servants is well known in Osun State. Since I became governor, I have made the welfare of our workers and the people of Osun State a top priority,” Adeleke said.
The governor’s comments came amid heightened political activity ahead of the governorship poll, with welfare, public finances and governance records emerging as major campaign issues.
Adeleke also addressed the recent restriction placed on an Osun State Government account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing the action as unfair and arguing that it would strengthen public support for his administration.
“The unjust freezing of state accounts will only strengthen the resolve of our people to do everything necessary to ensure Osun never returns to the era of darkness,” he said.
The APC has yet to respond directly to Adeleke’s latest remarks, but the party has previously criticised the governor’s administration over governance and financial decisions, including the handling of public resources.

The upcoming election is expected to be closely contested, with both major political camps seeking to convince voters through contrasting narratives on workers’ welfare, economic management and the future direction of Osun State.
