Adolphus Wabara backs bold campaign for Nnamdi Kanu release

Nnamdi Kanu release gains momentum as Adolphus Wabara supports Sowore’s bold campaign, urging peaceful efforts for justice and reconciliation

Nnamdi Kanu release gains powerful backing as former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, throws his weight behind the growing campaign for the embattled IPOB leader’s freedom.

Wabara, currently on a medical trip abroad, expressed his “full support” for the protest planned by rights activist Omoyele Sowore, scheduled for 20 October.

In a personally signed solidarity message addressed to Sowore and shared online, the veteran politician praised the initiative as a brave and timely response to injustice.

Although unable to join the demonstration physically, Wabara affirmed his spiritual presence and encouraged all peaceful efforts aimed at national reconciliation.

“Your courage to rise against injustice deserves commendation,” he wrote, adding that he was with them in spirit.

The campaign, led by Sowore—also the African Action Congress’s 2023 presidential candidate—has called on political and cultural leaders, especially from the South-East, to actively support the protest for Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

Despite legal victories, including an October 2022 Court of Appeal ruling that discharged Kanu based on the illegality of his extradition from Kenya, the Federal Government continues to hold him in custody.

Sowore stated that several prominent figures, including Governor Alex Otti, Governor Charles Soludo, Peter Obi, and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, had been contacted, urging unity in action rather than silence.

While responses varied, the call remains urgent: “If we genuinely believe that Nnamdi Kanu deserves freedom, then every leader of conscience must act now,” Sowore declared.

The growing momentum, underscored by Wabara’s support, signals a renewed push for a resolution to one of Nigeria’s most contentious legal and political sagas.
