Afenifere Urges Tinubu to Tackle Nigeria’s Insecurity

Afenifere urges President Tinubu to seek local and foreign help to end Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and protect lives and property

LAGOS, Nigeria, 26 November 2025 — The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has called on President Bola Tinubu to seek local and international support to address the country’s escalating insecurity.

In a communique issued Tuesday, Afenifere’s Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, and National Publicity Secretary, Prince Justice Faloye, expressed deep concern over what they described as a threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty and corporate existence.

The group said the persistence of a unitary system, a legacy of military rule, has denied ethnic nationalities, particularly in the Middle Belt, their right to self-determination.

Afenifere argued that the structure has contributed to ongoing violence, which they characterised as a “policide and genocide” against predominantly Christian communities.

The communique criticised the government for negotiating with heavily armed terrorists and suggested that foreign observers now view the federal administration’s inaction as complicity in the crisis.

Afenifere urged that all measures necessary to safeguard lives and property be welcomed, regardless of their origin.

Highlighting the offer of assistance from former US President Donald Trump, the organisation described foreign support as “redemptive,” recalling interference in the 2015 elections that led to the current ruling party’s ascendancy.

Afenifere also reiterated the need for comprehensive restructuring of the federation. The group recommended devolving power to states, granting independent police commands at state, local government, and community levels, and allowing ethnic nationalities the freedom to join states or regions of their choice.

The communique concluded by urging President Tinubu to decisively end killings across Nigeria, stressing that “the irreducible minimum duty of government is the protection of lives and property.”
