Akpabio made the remarks on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, while receiving members of the Arewa Revival Project, a northern youth organisation, at his office.
The delegation, led by the group’s coordinator, Mustafa Ibrahim, comprises members from the 19 northern states and presented an award to the Senate President in recognition of his contributions to nation-building.
Addressing the group, Akpabio encouraged its members to engage directly with Nigerians and strengthen support for Tinubu’s administration ahead of the next presidential election.
He warned that the youths would face opposition from critics on social media, alleging that some of those attacking the President and his supporters were financially motivated.
“Most of those who are attacking the President and attacking these young men on social media are being paid,” Akpabio alleged.
The Senate President did not provide evidence to substantiate the claim in the remarks reported.
He urged the group to counter what he described as misleading narratives about the government’s performance by reaching voters at the grassroots and explaining the administration’s policies.
Akpabio also defended the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, arguing that its measures were aimed at stabilising the economy and improving prospects for young Nigerians.
He praised the government’s tax reforms and efforts to amend outdated laws, saying the changes were intended to strengthen the country’s economic structure and reduce its dependence on crude oil revenue.
The Senate President further claimed that Tinubu had recorded an unprecedented level of development since assuming office in May 2023.
He also said members of the National Assembly were satisfied with the President’s performance and had endorsed his ambition to secure a second term.
Akpabio urged northern youths to remain committed to mobilising support for Tinubu as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

His comments come amid growing political activity and competing narratives on social media as political parties and their supporters prepare for the next general elections.
