Abia State Governor Alex Otti has reaffirmed his membership in the Labour Party (LP) amid speculation following recent defections by opposition governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during his monthly media parley at the Government House in Umuahia, Otti emphasized his support for the party’s legally recognized leadership.
“We are on the right side. We have maintained that Abure’s tenure has expired, and we went to court, which affirmed that. The court judgement confirmed his tenure had expired and advised people to obey court decisions to save the courts from unnecessary troubles,” Otti said.
While firm about his current party affiliation, Otti left room for future possibilities, noting, “We are not in an election period. If an election comes, we will still run under the Labour Party, but nobody knows tomorrow. But today, I am still in the Labour Party.”
The statement comes after a legal victory for the Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party at the Federal High Court in Abuja, which recognized Usman’s group as the official party leadership and instructed INEC to acknowledge them. The rival Julius Abure-led faction has rejected the ruling and plans to appeal.
