Amupitan made the remarks on Wednesday during an appreciation service in Abuja, where he reflected on the circumstances surrounding his appointment and his belief that it was guided by God.

He stated that he would not have accepted the position without what he described as clear spiritual direction, adding that he heard reassuring words such as “Fear not; do not be dismayed” before taking up the role.

The INEC Chairman stressed that his leadership journey has been sustained by faith and what he called God’s strength, which continues to guide his responsibilities at the electoral commission.

Amupitan, who was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in October 2025, succeeded Mahmood Yakubu as the sixth substantive chairman of INEC since its establishment.

He called on Nigerians to offer prayers for the commission, expressing hope that the upcoming 2027 general elections would be the most credible and successful in the nation’s history.

According to him, the challenges ahead are significant, but he remains confident that with divine help, obstacles will be overcome and electoral processes strengthened.
