APC Adamawa Ward Congress Postponed Ahead of Governor Fintiri’s Defection

APC Adamawa ward congress postponed until after March 25 national convention to allow Governor Fintiri and supporters to register

Alhaji Umar Duhu, former National Vice Chairman (North-East) of the All Progressives Congress, said on Thursday that the Adamawa State chapter of the party will hold its ward congress after the APC national convention.

The convention is scheduled to commence on March 25, 2026.

Speaking exclusively to PUNCH Online from his Abuja residence, Duhu said the postponement was to accommodate the expected defection of Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri to the APC.

“We are expecting Governor Fintiri to join the party soon, so the National Executive Council of the party decided to enable the governor to conclude his arrangements before defecting,” he explained.

Duhu added that the APC portal would be opened for two weeks after the convention to allow the governor and his supporters to register, ensuring a level playing field during the congresses.

He described Fintiri’s anticipated entry into the party as a unifying move, saying it would strengthen the APC in Adamawa State.

“The aim of the APC is victory for President Bola Tinubu and for all candidates contesting on the party platform in Adamawa State; any other consideration is secondary,” he stated.

Reacting to the reports, Victor Dogo, Adamawa State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, dismissed the speculation.

“It is not a criminal offence if the governor decamps to any party of his choice. We are not looking at the party, but what he represents — national unity and development,” Dogo said.

Dogo also addressed reports of PDP flags being removed in parts of the state, emphasising that the party prioritises results over symbolic displays.

He noted that President Tinubu’s recent visit to commission key projects in Adamawa aligned with the governor’s economic priorities.
