APC Ebonyi LG poll campaign begins in Ikwo as leaders rally supporters, promote PVC collection and seek victory in August 22 elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has commenced its campaign for the 22 August 2026 Local Government Area elections, launching a grassroots mobilisation drive in Ikwo Local Government Area as party leaders seek broad voter support across the state.

The campaign flag-off brought together APC leaders from Ikwo and other parts of Ebonyi, with party officials emphasising the importance of increasing the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the polls.
Presenting the party’s flag to the APC chairmanship candidate for Ikwo LGA, Mr Chidi Nwode, Governor Francis Nwifuru called on party members to remain united and work towards securing victory at the council elections.
Represented by the state Deputy Governor, Mrs Patricia Obila, Nwifuru described the party’s chairmanship and councillorship candidates as “tested, trusted and marketable”, urging supporters to focus on issue-based campaigns.
“I therefore urge party supporters to embark on issue-based campaigns and avoid actions capable of undermining the peaceful conduct of the election,” Nwifuru said.
The governor encouraged party faithful to introduce the candidates to communities and present their programmes to voters, while warning against negative campaign tactics that could affect the peaceful atmosphere of the election.
Nwifuru also praised the outgoing Ikwo Council Chairman, Mr Sunday Nwankwo, for promoting peace, unity and development, saying the administration had created a foundation for the incoming leadership.
Former Ebonyi State Governor and chairman of the occasion, Chief Martin Elechi, urged political actors to maintain civility throughout the campaign period.
He cautioned against turning political competition into hostility and reminded citizens that freedom of association remains a constitutional right.
“We are not here to fight anybody, so nobody should intimidate or attack another because of political differences,” Elechi said.
The Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Moses Odunwa, also appealed for peaceful participation, encouraging residents to support the APC candidates while urging eligible voters to take part actively in the electoral process.
Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Chief Chinedu Ogah, described the event as the beginning of wider political mobilisation across Ebonyi State.
He urged eligible voters to collect and protect their PVCs, stressing that every vote would matter during the elections.
APC State Chairman, Chief Stanley Emegha, thanked residents of Ikwo for their continued support for the party and expressed confidence in the party’s strength across the locality.

The August 22 local government elections will determine leadership across 13 local government areas and 171 wards in Ebonyi State, with parties expected to intensify grassroots engagement as voting day approaches.
