Lukman, a founding member of the APC who is now aligned with the African Democratic Congress, said the party has drifted away from the ideals that originally shaped its formation.

He described recent developments within the party as deeply discouraging and inconsistent with its founding vision.

The former party stalwart argued that while public attention often focuses on disputes within opposition parties, the ruling APC is also facing internal contradictions that could escalate into more serious political challenges if left unaddressed.

He pointed in particular to what he described as the collapse of consensus-building processes across several states, suggesting that internal mechanisms designed to manage party unity were no longer functioning effectively.

“I can tell you, I feel disappointed having been part of the founding members of the APC, and knowing the vision that pushed us to form the APC. To see where APC is today, is quite disappointing,” Lukman said.

He added that the party’s internal dynamics were creating what he described as political discomfort, warning that such tensions could develop into a wider crisis that may not have been anticipated by its leadership.

The remarks further underline concerns about an APC internal crisis emerging within the ruling structure.

Lukman also reiterated that politics remains fundamentally a contest of ideas and interests, expressing confidence that Nigerian voters will ultimately make informed choices in future elections.

He insisted that political competition should be embraced rather than avoided, stressing that the electorate will decide the direction of the country at the ballot box.
