APC Nasarawa primaries manipulation allegation emerges as Mohammed Adamu accuses party leaders of plotting to influence 2027 ward-level selection
Former Inspector General of Police and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State, Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, has accused the party’s state leadership of allegedly plotting to manipulate the forthcoming primaries through ward executives ahead of the 2027 elections.

The allegation was conveyed in Lafia on Monday through the Chairman of Counter and Mobilisation of his campaign team, Mr Isah Nathaniel, who claimed there was a coordinated effort to pressure ward executives across the state’s 147 wards to endorse a preferred aspirant.
Mohammed Adamu Abubakar described the alleged process as political manipulation, insisting that it undermines internal democracy and the integrity of the party’s selection process.
According to him, what is being presented as party coordination is, in reality, an attempt to predetermine outcomes and impose a candidate on members of the party.
The claim comes shortly after the Nasarawa State APC Chairman, Dr Aliyu Bello, assured aspirants that the party would provide a level playing field during the primaries and maintain internal fairness.
However, Mohammed Adamu Abubakar warned that any attempt to influence ward executives could destabilise the party and weaken its chances in the 2027 general elections, particularly as stakeholders have reportedly agreed to adopt direct primaries.
He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and safeguard the internal democratic structure of the party in Nasarawa State.
The former police chief also urged the National Working Committee of the APC to step in, describing the situation as an “unfolding illegality” that requires urgent correction to restore constitutional order.
Additionally, he called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to monitor developments closely, warning that any attempt to impose outcomes through coercion could threaten public peace.
In response, the APC leadership in Nasarawa State maintained that it remains committed to a fair and transparent process, with Dr Aliyu Bello stating that no aspirant is being undermined. He added that while Governor Abdullahi Sule retains the right to support any aspirant, such endorsement does not prevent others from contesting.

The development adds tension to early political manoeuvring within the APC in Nasarawa State as aspirants position themselves ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
