APC chairman Yilwatda welcomes former NNPP candidate Kwankwaso to join after recent defections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially opened its doors to former New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, according to APC National Chairman Prof Nentawe Yilwatda.

Speaking on Trust TV on Sunday, Prof Yilwatda said, “Our doors are still open for Kwankwaso to join the APC. If he comes, he’s mostly welcome. Though we are not yet in negotiation with him yet.”
The announcement follows the defection of the only NNPP governor, Abba Yusuf of Kano State, along with members of the State House of Assembly, to the APC last Friday.
Kwankwaso expressed surprise over Yusuf’s move, noting that it left many, including himself, confused.
“Frankly, it came as a big shock, not just to me, but to many Nigerians. To be honest, even now, it still feels unreal. Sometimes I lie down and feel like it was all a dream,” Kwankwaso said.

The APC leadership’s statement signals the party’s readiness to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 general elections, welcoming defectors to strengthen its political position nationally.
