APC Rejects Bid to Recall Senator Francis Fadahunsi

The APC rejected a Fadahunsi recall push in Osun East, calling it politically motivated after protests in Ilesa over comments before the August election

On Friday 11 September 2026 in Osogbo, Nigeria, All Progressives Congress official Akinyele Akintola said the party in Osun East rejected the Fadahunsi recall campaign against Senator Francis Fadahunsi.

Akinyele Akintola, Director of the Contact and Mobilisation Committee for Ijesa South Federal Constituency, spoke for APC structures in the six local government areas that form the senatorial district: Obokun, Oriade, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East and Atakumosa West.

He said the recall request does not represent genuine party members or constituents and that those behind it are working against the party and the district.

The APC in the district backed Senator Francis Fadahunsi’s continued stay in the Senate.

The statement came after youths and other residents protested in Ilesa over remarks they linked to him before the 15 August Osun governorship election.

Akinyele Akintola called that protest and the recall drive politically motivated and asked stakeholders not to raise tension in Osun East.

A recall of a Nigerian senator is a constitutional process that needs a petition, verification by the Independent National Electoral Commission and a referendum, not a party press note.

The APC position is one organised voice in the district. The Ilesa protest is another. Neither, on its own, removes a sitting senator.
