APC strategy against Peter Obi revealed as party outlines plans to counter his rising influence ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria
The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ben Nwoye, has disclosed that the ruling party is developing a coordinated political strategy to counter the growing influence of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, on 30 March 2026.

Nwoye said the APC is closely monitoring Obi’s political strength, particularly in southern Nigeria, where the former Anambra State governor recorded significant electoral gains during the 2023 presidential election.
Peter Obi, who previously contested under the Labour Party and is now associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), emerged as a major political force in the South-East and other parts of southern Nigeria during the last election cycle.
According to Nwoye, the South-East remains the “ground zero” of the Obidient political movement, noting that Obi’s support base extended across several states, including Delta, Edo and Lagos.
He stated that the APC cannot afford to underestimate the former presidential candidate’s influence, stressing that the party is preparing to deploy strategic political engagement to secure victory in the region.
“When you have such a figure moving around, you should be prepared,” Nwoye said, adding that every vote would be critical in the forthcoming election.
He further noted that the South is expected to remain the central battleground in 2027, with multiple political heavyweights likely to contest for the presidency.
Nwoye mentioned that aside from Peter Obi, other prominent figures such as Rotimi Amaechi are also expected to play key roles in the emerging political contest.
He added that the APC intends to strengthen its electoral presence across southern states and maximise voter support through structured political mobilisation and engagement.
