APC Support Groups Assure Stability Amid Election Controversy

APC Support Groups affirm party stability amid electronic transmission debate, focusing on grassroots mobilisation for the 2027 elections

The All Progressives Congress Support Groups Council has dismissed claims that the ruling party is unsettled by controversies surrounding the inclusion of electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act.

The Director-General of the Council, Sadiq Abubakar Jikta, spoke during the inauguration of executive members of the APC National Assembly Legislative Aides Support Group (ANALAG), stressing that the party remains confident and focused ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“APC is not panicking. It is the opposition that is worried because they believe the APC, as the party in power, will outmatch them. We are operating transparently and ensuring a level playing field for all political parties,” Jikta said.

He clarified that decisions on electronic transmission fall under the constitutional duty of the National Assembly, and that the party is prepared to adapt to whatever position the legislature adopts.

Ahead of the party’s national convention next month, Jikta also revealed that the Council is seeking formal recognition within the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC).

He noted that support groups were not originally recognised in the party’s constitution but hoped the ongoing constitutional review would institutionalise them as a core structure.

“The party inaugurated a constitutional review committee that has conducted public hearings across the six geopolitical zones. As the APC Support Groups Council, we made submissions advocating inclusion and representation in the National Working Committee,” he said, adding that the Council has proposed creating a National Mobilisation Secretary position to strengthen grassroots engagement.

Analysing the broader impact of support groups, Ambassador Ayoola Ronke Fakunle, ANALAG National Coordinator, emphasised the nationwide reach of the legislative aides group.

Members are mobilising voters at the federal, state, and local government levels, ensuring that registered voters show their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and confirm APC membership before joining the mobilisation efforts.

“Because the purpose is to make sure that our principals, we support them for their re-election, and we support our dear president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We are going all out to secure the four years,” Fakunle said.

She highlighted that the structured formation of support groups reflects increasing public confidence in the party and enhances its capacity for meaningful grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
