APGA Demands Abaribe and Ikwechegh Vacate Seats

APGA Lawmakers Vacate: Abia chapter demands Enyinnaya Abaribe and Alex Ikwechegh relinquish National Assembly seats after party defections

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has called on Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe and Alex Mascot Ikwechegh to immediately vacate their seats in the National Assembly following their defections to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Labour Party (LP), respectively.

Addressing journalists in Aba, APGA’s Abia State Publicity Secretary, Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, stressed that the lawmakers were elected on APGA’s platform and should honourably relinquish their mandates.

“The seats they are occupying at the National Assembly belong to APGA. It is only honourable that they vacate them immediately,” Nwokoro said, adding that the defections had unexpectedly “liberated” the party from political constraints.

The party accused Abaribe and Ikwechegh of contributing little to APGA’s growth in Abia State during their tenure, describing their actions as a form of sabotage.

Nwokoro maintained that despite the defections, APGA’s prospects would remain strong ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Under the leadership of Abia State chairman, Sunday Onukwubiri, APGA is reportedly repositioning to ensure greater success in the next electoral cycle.

Nwokoro urged politicians seeking to contest under the party’s banner to join early, warning that APGA would no longer be treated as a “last resort” for political opportunists.

“APGA has come to stay in Abia State. No amount of political manoeuvring will distract us as we march towards 2027,” he said.
