Aregbesola Blames ADC Loss on Weak Funding and Incumbency Power in Anambra, FCT Elections

Rauf Aregbesola blames ADC’s defeat in Anambra and FCT elections on weak funding, poor structure, and incumbency advantage

Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has explained the reasons behind the party’s defeat in the November 25 Anambra State governorship election and the February 26 Federal Capital Territory area council elections.

Speaking at the ongoing ADC national convention on Tuesday, Aregbesola admitted that the party faced significant internal and external challenges that affected its electoral performance.

The ADC election loss, according to him, was influenced by the strength of incumbency, financial limitations, and structural weaknesses within the party.

He said the party’s opponents benefited from incumbency power, monetisation of the electoral process, and alleged misuse of state resources during the elections.

Aregbesola also acknowledged internal setbacks, noting that poor funding and an unprepared party structure contributed to ADC’s inability to secure victory.

Despite the losses, he stressed that the party has drawn lessons from the experience and is now better positioned for future contests.

He added that the ADC is preparing for upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states, expressing optimism about improved performance.

In the FCT area council elections, the ruling All Progressives Congress secured five out of six seats, while the remaining seat went to the Peoples Democratic Party.
