Atiku Abubakar 2027 Candidacy rumours dismissed as false, with his media aide stating he never implied stepping down in recent BBC Hausa interview
Atiku Abubakar 2027 Candidacy remains intact, according to a strongly worded rebuttal issued by the former Vice President’s media team, refuting claims that he intends to step down from the presidential race.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Paul Ibe, Atiku dismissed recent media interpretations of his interview with the BBC Hausa Service as “a distortion” and “mischievous”.
“At no point did the former Vice President expressly state, suggest, or even imply that he intends to step down for anyone,” the statement clarified.
The controversy stemmed from Atiku’s remarks in Hausa, which, according to Ibe, have been inaccurately translated and exaggerated by certain media outlets eager to imply that the Wazirin Adamawa was preparing to quit the race in favour of a younger aspirant.
“What he said was that if a young candidate emerges through a credible, competitive primary, he would support that person,” Ibe explained.

The statement emphasised Atiku’s continued openness to internal party democracy, reiterating that youth participation in leadership is a welcome development — not an admission of withdrawal.
“Interpretative journalism is a legitimate aspect of reporting,” the aide noted, “but stretching interpretation to the point of mischief is unacceptable and must not be encouraged.”
This clarification comes at a time when Nigeria’s 2027 political atmosphere is already heating up, with speculation swirling around potential presidential contenders across parties.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to which Atiku belongs, has reportedly zoned its presidential ticket to the South, though no formal flag-bearer has emerged.
The Atiku Abubakar 2027 Candidacy still commands significant attention, particularly in the North, where Atiku has deep political roots and influence.
While Atiku’s statement did not confirm or deny his official declaration for the 2027 race, it underscores his readiness to contest unless another candidate emerges through a transparent primary that he deems credible.
