Atiku Abubakar Denies Fake 2027 Retirement Rumours

Atiku Abubakar 2027 election rumour debunked as former VP denies claims he is quitting politics or stepping down from presidential race

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed viral social media claims suggesting he has quit active politics and will not participate in the 2027 presidential election, describing the reports as fake and misleading.

The Atiku Abubakar 2027 election rumour alleged that the former Vice President recently met African Democratic Congress (ADC) stakeholders in Adamawa State, where he reportedly announced plans to step aside from politics.

However, in a statement issued by his media aide Paul Ibe, Atiku Abubakar strongly denied the claim, insisting that no such meeting or declaration had taken place.

According to the statement, the only recent engagement Atiku had was with ADC stakeholders in Adamawa State last Thursday, and it did not include any discussion about exiting politics or the 2027 election.

The statement stressed that the former Vice President would never communicate a decision of such magnitude through rumours or unnamed sources.

“Atiku Abubakar cannot, and would never, communicate an issue as fundamental and consequential as exiting active politics through rumours, faceless sources, or third-party fabrication,” the statement read.

It added that any decision regarding withdrawal from politics would be formally communicated through the Atiku Media Office.

The Atiku Abubakar 2027 election rumour was further described as part of a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at creating confusion and undermining public trust.

The statement also alleged that the narrative was being driven by anti-democratic elements unsettled by growing political developments ahead of future elections.
