Troops of Operation HADIN KAI reportedly carried out the rescue operation in the Mandara Mountains, a known terrorist stronghold, months after Boko Haram attacked a military base in the area, killing personnel and abducting civilians.

In a statement posted on his X account on Monday, Atiku described the successful rescue as a relief for the victims and their families, while stressing that Nigeria’s security challenges remain far from over.

“I am elated at reports of the rescue of 360 persons who were abducted by terrorists in Ngoshe, Borno State,” he said, commending the military and other security agencies involved in the operation.

He, however, warned that other abducted Nigerians, including schoolchildren and teachers kidnapped in Oriire, Oyo State, and Mussa, Borno State, must not be abandoned.

Atiku urged the government and security agencies to intensify rescue operations and ensure that all citizens still in captivity are brought home safely.

He also called for reforms in Nigeria’s security architecture, advocating stronger intelligence gathering, improved technology and preventive strategies to combat insecurity.

According to him, with proper equipment and effective political leadership, the military has the capacity to end insurgency and restore lasting peace across the country.
