Atiku Abubakar Denies Gifting SUV to Naval Officer

Atiku Abubakar denies reports claiming he gifted a Toyota SUV to Lt. Ahmed Yerima, calling the viral story baseless and entirely fabricated.

Atiku Abubakar has dismissed viral reports alleging he donated a brand-new Toyota SUV to Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, the naval officer involved in a public clash with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In a statement shared via X, Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, described the claim as “entirely baseless and concocted.”

“His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007), did not gift Lt. Ahmed Yerima — or any other individual — a brand new Toyota SUV, contrary to the false reports currently circulating on social media. The story is entirely fabricated and should be completely disregarded by the public,” the statement read.

The false report first surfaced on Facebook, suggesting Atiku had rewarded Yerima for standing up to Wike.
The confrontation occurred over a disputed parcel of land in Abuja’s Gaduwa District, where Wike reportedly confronted Yerima and his team of armed naval personnel guarding a property allegedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo (retd.).

A widely circulated video captured Wike accusing the retired naval chief of unlawfully taking possession of the land, sparking intense public debate over government protocol and civility.
