Atiku Vows to Cut Living Costs, Urges Nigerians to Get PVCs

Atiku promises affordable living and improved security if elected in 2027, urging registered voters to collect their PVCs ahead of the election

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has promised to make living more affordable and improve security in Nigeria if elected president in 2027, while urging registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the general election.

Atiku made the pledge in a post on his official X account on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, in which he criticised the rising cost of living and persistent insecurity, saying Nigerians across different generations were struggling with economic hardship and fears for their safety.

“My fellow Nigerians, young and old, I know the pain you are carrying,” the former vice-president wrote.

Atiku highlighted the difficulties facing households, including parents struggling to feed their children and pensioners forced to choose between buying food and purchasing medicines.

He also expressed concern about the pressure on young workers, saying their earnings were increasingly consumed by essential expenses such as transport, rent and other basic needs.

“Young people work hard, yet transport, rent and basic needs consume what they earn,” he said.

On security, Atiku pointed to the continued threat of kidnapping and attacks, noting that many families lived with uncertainty over whether their loved ones would return home safely.

“And across the country, families live with the fear of kidnapping, attacks and whether their loved ones will return home safely,” he added.

The ADC presidential candidate said Nigerians should not have to contend with hunger and insecurity at the same time, warning that the country’s current challenges should not become the legacy inherited by future generations.

“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time. We cannot allow this hardship and fear to become the future our children inherit,” Atiku stated.

As part of his appeal, he urged eligible voters who had registered to collect and safeguard their PVCs, describing the cards as an important means of participating in the democratic process and seeking change through the ballot.

“If you are a registered voter, please go and collect your PVC. Hold on to it. It is your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change,” he said.

Atiku also blamed President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the high cost of living, promising to reverse the trend if given the mandate to lead the country.

“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” he said.

The statement forms part of Atiku’s appeal to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general election, with affordability, public safety and economic wellbeing featuring prominently in his message.

He concluded by calling for unity across generations and urging citizens to support his vision of a country where families could live with dignity, safety and hope.

“Let us stand together, across generations, and vote for a Nigeria where every family can live with dignity, safety and hope,” he added.
