Atiku Obi back Tinubu call made as Armayau Abubakar and Dayo Fasola say Nigeria’s opposition lacks the strength for the 2027 election
Former Deputy Governor of Taraba State Alhaji Armayau Abubakar and APC chieftain Dayo Fasola have called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi and other opposition leaders to support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, arguing that the opposition has lost its political relevance.

Armayau Abubakar, who also serves as a commissioner at the Federal Character Commission, made the remarks while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, where he described the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the country’s dominant political force.
The call comes amid growing political realignments and early positioning by parties ahead of the next general election.
“My message to the opposition is that it is high time at this moment in time to join the winning party, the APC,” Abubakar said.
He argued that President Tinubu’s administration had recorded achievements that, in his view, left the opposition with little basis for criticism.
“Tinubu’s achievements are very glaring. What can the opposition say against Mr President? I believe there’s nothing,” he said.
Abubakar further claimed that the APC’s control of several state governments, the National Assembly and state houses of assembly reflected broad political support across the country.
“We have almost all the governors together with us, members of the National Assembly all with us. We have members of the State Houses of Assembly. They are with us,” he said.
He expressed confidence that President Tinubu would secure a second term, arguing that the opposition had fallen far behind the ruling party in political influence.
Also speaking, Dayo Fasola, a women’s advocate in the APC and National Women Leader of the Renewed Hope People Advocacy, said the opposition had failed to present a coordinated challenge to the ruling party.
“Sincerely, I feel this game is not going to be fair because the opposition is more or less non-existent. They are not giving us a good run for the money,” Fasola said.
“They are not coordinated. The coordination is non-existent, and it’s a pity. But then, when God wants to complete your mission, He makes it easy. There’s zero opposition,” she added.
The comments come as political parties continue consultations, coalition talks and internal preparations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
While leaders within the APC have expressed confidence about retaining power, opposition figures have maintained that they are working to build stronger alliances capable of mounting a competitive challenge.

The 2027 election is expected to feature renewed debates over governance, economic reforms, security and national development, with both the ruling party and opposition seeking to consolidate support across the country.
