Atiku’s Ally Defects to APC, Says There’s No Vacancy in Aso Rock Until 2031

Aslam Aliyu resigns from the ADC, joins the APC, and expresses confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in the 2027 presidential election

A political ally of African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Aslam Aliyu, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that there is no vacancy in the Presidential Villa until 2031.

Aslam Aliyu announced her resignation from the ADC in a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday, where she endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.

The development comes as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties intensifying efforts to strengthen their ranks.

Explaining her decision, Aliyu said she had spent nearly two decades working within the opposition but had concluded that it lacked a practical vision for Nigeria’s development.

“After almost twenty years of working hard to make progress, it’s very clear that the opposition doesn’t have a real plan for development or a practical and lasting solution to save the country,” she said.

Aliyu also criticised the ADC, describing the party as a “hoax” and alleging that it lacked internal unity and a clear policy direction.

According to her, the opposition has focused more on criticising the Federal Government than presenting workable alternatives to address the country’s challenges.

“Nigeria is fed up with political figures who only take photos and act like they’re filming, but don’t really care about the country,” she said.

The former ADC member urged her supporters to join the APC, expressing confidence that President Tinubu would secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.

“There are no available rooms in Aso Rock Villa because President Tinubu will win the presidential election in 2027, thanks to Almighty Allah,” Aliyu stated.

Her defection adds to a series of political movements ahead of the next general election, as politicians continue to reposition themselves across party lines.

The APC has maintained that President Tinubu deserves another term to consolidate ongoing reforms, while opposition parties are working to build alliances capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.
