Baba-Ahmed Obi 2023 Support explained as Datti Baba-Ahmed says sympathy influenced his decision to run with Peter Obi in the 2023 election

Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview with Symfoni, where he addressed public perceptions surrounding his political alliance with Obi during the 2023 general election.
Obi 2023 support by Baba-Ahmed narrative has resurfaced following his comments, in which he insisted that his involvement in the ticket was a voluntary decision motivated by concern for Obi’s political situation at the time.
According to him, Peter Obi had approached three major political figures in 2022 to join his presidential bid, but none agreed to align with him, a development Baba-Ahmed described as disappointing.
He stated that the situation influenced his decision to step in and support the Labour Party ticket, adding that he felt a sense of responsibility at the time.
However, Baba-Ahmed declined to identify the politicians involved or the reasons behind their alleged refusal to join the campaign.
He also dismissed suggestions that he remains politically tied to Obi, stressing that his support in 2023 should not be interpreted as automatic loyalty to any future political movement involving the former presidential candidate.
Baba-Ahmed maintained that his political choices remain independent, insisting that he is not bound to follow Obi into any future electoral platform.
He further emphasised that while he supported Obi’s 2023 ambition, his decision was rooted in personal conviction rather than political obligation.
“They thought I would follow Peter Obi. Obi does not own me. I own my independence,” he said during the interview.
