Baba-Ahmed Tinubu warning intensifies Nigeria’s 2027 debate as the PRP chairman calls Tinubu the country’s worst president and warns the North
PRP National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, issued a stark warning about President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027, describing Tinubu as Nigeria’s worst president and claiming that the North would suffer severely if he secures another term.

Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview with Symfoni TV, where he delivered a forceful assessment of the Tinubu administration and accused the Federal Government of becoming disconnected from the realities facing Nigerians.
“The North will be finished if Tinubu wins in 2027. He’s the worst President ever in the history of Nigeria,” Baba-Ahmed said.
The PRP chairman argued that the central problem was not simply individual government policies but what he described as a growing disconnect between the government and the people.
He also criticised Tinubu over a reported meeting between the President and Catholic bishops at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to Baba-Ahmed, the bishops had raised concerns about hunger, insecurity and wider hardships confronting Nigerians during their engagement with the President.
“Catholic bishops went to the President. These are highly respected people. He must have thought that it would be a good outing for him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t even have agreed to meet them,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed claimed that the President rejected the concerns raised during the meeting rather than acknowledging the difficulties being experienced by citizens.
“They went to him, politely said to him, Mr President, the people are not happy with you. They are hungry. They are insecure. There are a lot of problems running in the country,” he said.
He then questioned the administration’s response to those concerns, arguing that a government should be prepared to recognise and address genuine public grievances.
“For every issue the bishops raised, the President said, no, you are wrong. I am right,” Baba-Ahmed alleged.
His remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties and political figures increasingly scrutinising the performance of the Tinubu administration.
Tinubu’s government has defended its economic reforms as necessary measures intended to stabilise Nigeria’s economy and establish a stronger foundation for long-term growth. The administration has also repeatedly highlighted efforts in areas including infrastructure, investment and economic restructuring.
The political debate has nevertheless remained sharply divided, particularly over the impact of economic reforms on households and businesses and the government’s handling of insecurity.
For Baba-Ahmed, those challenges amount to a decisive argument against another Tinubu term.
His comments also reflect the increasingly prominent role of regional concerns in the political conversation ahead of 2027.
The PRP chairman’s assessment is a political opinion rather than an independent evaluation of the President’s performance.
Whether voters, particularly in Northern Nigeria, share that assessment will become clearer as political campaigns gather momentum.
