Former Delta Deputy Governor Benjamin Elue Dies at 85

Former Delta State Deputy Governor Benjamin Sunday Elue has passed away at the age of 85 following a brief illness, family sources confirmed on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Asaba, Delta State.

Elue served two terms from 1999 to 2007 alongside former Governor James Ibori.

Born on June 6, 1940, in the Anioma community of Obior, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Elue began his professional life as a teacher in primary and secondary schools.

He later pursued management consulting and private business ventures while remaining a dedicated member and elder statesman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori mourned Elue as a loyal patriot, seasoned administrator, and committed party leader whose contributions to the state’s growth and stability were “indelible in the annals of its history.”

The governor noted Elue’s humility, dedication to duty, and unwavering loyalty during his tenure.

Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa described Elue as a “renowned teacher, respected community leader, and astute politician whose lifestyle was worthy of emulation.” Okowa extended condolences to Elue’s family, the people of Aniocha North, and Delta State at large, praying for his eternal rest.

Ndudi Elumelu, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, also paid tribute on social media, calling Elue a “soft-spoken, kind-hearted, God-fearing leader” and a mentor to many.

He prayed for strength for Elue’s family, the people of Aniocha North, and Delta State in bearing the loss.

Elue’s decades-long career in public service and politics left a lasting mark on Delta State, remembered by colleagues and citizens alike for his uncommon humility, dedication, and leadership.
