Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu says he is open to joining the Abia governorship race in 2027 after mounting pressure from supporters and community leaders
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, Chief Benjamin Kalu, has said he is not afraid to join the Abia State governorship race ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He made the statement on Tuesday during a meeting with major political stakeholders and elders in his Bende Federal Constituency.
Kalu said he is carefully considering the calls from his supporters and will announce his decision soon.
He assured them that he would return with a clear position after due consultation.
The Deputy Speaker described the support from his constituents as organic and deeply rooted.
He urged them to remain patient as he weighs the political demand.
Community elders presented him with a machete and traditional girdle as a symbol of preparedness and leadership.
Kalu said such traditional support has always preceded his past electoral victories.
He also promised to announce his final decision in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
Stakeholders at the meeting praised his leadership and performance in the National Assembly.
They said his representation has positioned him as a strong contender for the governorship seat.

Support groups also displayed placards urging him to enter the race ahead of 2027.
