In a statement released on Tuesday in Makurdi by the APC Chairman, Benjamin Omale, the party described Tarzoor’s move as “a decision made in good conscience” and a demonstration of genuine commitment to the state’s development.
Omale said Tarzoor’s decision reflected a growing wave of confidence in Governor Alia’s leadership, which he said had redefined governance in the state through massive infrastructural projects, urban renewal, and human capital development.
“The league of endorsement and wide acceptance of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, who has re-engineered governance in the state since 1999 with road infrastructure, flyovers, flood control, health and education projects, is attracting men of good conscience to build a better Benue.
Ambassador Terhemen Tarzoor’s coming will help contribute to that effort,” Omale said.
Tarzoor, a former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly and the PDP governorship candidate in 2015, lost the election to Samuel Ortom before being appointed Nigeria’s Ambassador to Namibia by the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking earlier, Tarzoor explained that his decision to align with the current administration was motivated by visible progress and a shared vision for the state.
“Today, I find immense joy and reassurance in seeing those same aspirations reflected so vividly in the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia,” he said.
He highlighted Alia’s infrastructural strides, economic diversification efforts, and commitment to workers’ welfare, describing the governor’s performance as “a reflection of purposeful leadership.”
Omale further applauded Tarzoor for “quitting the camp of critics” and recognising the governor’s achievements, saying it proved that Alia’s administration was delivering “the true dividends of democracy.”
“Tarzoor has taken the best decision to join hands with the governor after realising that he is performing excellently well,” Omale noted.
He added that the APC would continue to welcome individuals and groups willing to work collectively for the state’s development.
