Benue PDP defection ceremony postponed following deadly attacks in Otukpo and Agatu, Senator Abba Moro directs rescheduling of events

Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, announced the shift in a statement on Monday, January 13, 2026.

The ceremony, originally scheduled for January 17 and 18, was to welcome members from the APC, ADC, LP, and other parties into the PDP.

The postponement comes after attacks on Otobi-Akpa in Otukpo LGA and parts of the Apa-Agatu Federal Constituency resulted in the deaths of several individuals, including Hon. Ochi Igbabe, the PDP House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 elections.

According to Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, the senator’s Media Adviser, new dates for the defection events will be announced in due course.

Senator Moro expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the rescheduling.

He further urged prayers for the souls of the deceased and called on God to grant their families strength to endure the losses.
