2027: Imo APC Chieftain Bona Nlemadim Dumps Party Over Marginalisation Claims

Imo APC Bona Nlemadim dumps APC, citing the alleged marginalisation of Ngor Okpala, as the Imo politician joins the Action Peoples Party

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Chief Bona Nlemadim, has resigned from the ruling party and joined the Action Peoples Party (APP), citing what he described as the long-standing political marginalisation of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area.

The decision, announced in an open letter dated June 25, 2026, marks another political development in Imo State as parties begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In the letter addressed to APC members in Ngor Okpala, Nlemadim said his departure was driven by what he described as years of injustice and exclusion of his local government from key political opportunities.

The announcement also highlighted his disappointment over the outcome of the APC’s consensus process, particularly the failure of Dr Chijioke Kaduru to secure the party’s senatorial ticket for Owerri Zone.

“I was disillusioned by the outcome, which was unfair and devoid of equity. To rub it in, Ngor Okpala was also denied the House of Representatives ticket for our constituency,” Nlemadim wrote.

He argued that despite years of loyalty to the APC and support for its candidates, Ngor Okpala had continued to suffer political and infrastructural neglect.

“Over 14 years of APC rule in Imo State and full participation in party activities, I cannot drive from Orie Nguru to Umuewere, a distance of one kilometre,” he said, describing the situation as evidence that the benefits of democracy had eluded his community.

Nlemadim, who joined the APC alongside former Governor Rochas Okorocha after leaving the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2014, reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu despite his resignation from the party.

“Like you all, I stand on the mandate of our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Not only will I vote for him in the forthcoming election, but I will also encourage my followers to do the same,” he stated.

He added that he would support any candidate from Ngor Okpala who secures an elective ticket, regardless of political affiliation, saying the welfare of his people now takes priority over party loyalty.
