David Mark Slams FG, Says Judiciary Is on Trial Over ADC Ruling

David Mark slams FG over ADC deregistration case, saying judiciary is on trial after Appeal Court reversed Federal High Court ruling

National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has criticised the Federal Government following the Court of Appeal’s decision reversing the deregistration order against the party and four others.

Mark said the judiciary, rather than the opposition parties, is now under public scrutiny over the handling of the controversial case involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He made the remarks after the Court of Appeal in Abuja granted a stay of execution on a Federal High Court judgment that had ordered the deregistration of the ADC and other political parties.

The appellate court had faulted aspects of the lower court’s decision and reaffirmed its supervisory authority, describing the earlier ruling as procedurally flawed.

Reacting to the development, Mark warned against what he described as political manipulation of judicial processes, insisting that Nigeria’s democratic stability must be protected.

He said the controversy had raised serious questions about judicial consistency and the credibility of court decisions affecting political parties.

According to him, the situation places a heavy responsibility on the National Judicial Council to safeguard the integrity of the judiciary.

Mark maintained that the ADC remained confident despite the legal dispute, adding that the party would emerge stronger from the controversy.

He also alleged that attempts were being made to weaken opposition platforms ahead of future elections, though he urged party members not to be discouraged.

The ADC chairman further stressed that public confidence in the judiciary must be preserved to avoid eroding trust in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
