Davido, Bashir Ahmad Trade Words Ahead of Osun Election Campaigns

Davido Bashir Ahmad Osun Campaign Clash emerges as both figures trade remarks ahead of Osun’s August 15 governorship election campaigns

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad are set to draw attention in Osun State as political campaigns intensify ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The expected meeting between the two figures follows a heated exchange on social media after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a telephone conversation with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking a second term and is also Davido’s uncle.

Davido celebrated the presidential conversation on his X account, writing that he “was there live” and had witnessed what he described as a historic moment.

Bashir Ahmad, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), responded by saying he had saved Davido’s post, suggesting that the singer might later return to social media to complain about the outcome of the election.

The comment sparked a response from Davido, who criticised Ahmad by referencing his reported performance during an APC primary election, where he allegedly received 16 votes.

The singer also questioned Ahmad’s record in public service and challenged him over his impact on his community.

Ahmad later replied that he would be in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, from Tuesday, August 11, as part of the APC campaign activities.

“I will be in Osogbo from 11th, David,” Ahmad wrote in response.

The exchange has added a new layer of public interest to an already competitive Osun governorship race, where major political parties are increasing their campaign activities ahead of election day.

The APC is backing Bola Oyebamiji, while the Accord Party is campaigning for incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke as he seeks another term in office.

Davido has publicly supported his uncle’s re-election campaign, while Ahmad has continued to promote the APC’s position in the state contest.

With campaigns entering a decisive phase, political observers say the election is attracting attention beyond traditional party structures, with celebrities, former government officials and public personalities increasingly shaping public conversations around the poll.

The Osun election is expected to be closely watched, particularly following recent controversies involving the freezing and subsequent reversal of the state government’s accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
