Dele Momodu Denies Working for Tinubu, Supports Strong Opposition

Dele Momodu denies working for Tinubu, urges united opposition coalition to challenge APC in Nigeria’s 2027 election

Veteran journalist and politician Dele Momodu, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has dismissed claims that he is secretly working for President Bola Tinubu.

Momodu clarified that his involvement in opposition politics is driven by genuine concern for Nigeria and the need for a strong democratic system.

“It’s ignorant to say I’m talking like this because I supported Atiku in the last election. I’m a million times closer to Tinubu than I am to Atiku,” Momodu said, adding that his proximity to the president has led some opposition members to suspect him.

“In fact, some people think I am Tinubu’s spy. If it were because of money, Tinubu has a far bigger war chest than Atiku will ever have,” he noted.

Momodu also stressed that a united opposition ticket could seriously challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election.

He suggested a coalition combining Atiku Abubakar with a southern figure such as Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi.

“I believe if we have a combination of Atiku, maybe with Peter Obi, maybe with Rotimi Amaechi, or any other person from the South, Tinubu will be gone,” he said.

The ADC chieftain highlighted the growing opposition coalition within the party, suggesting it could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of next year’s election.

Momodu emphasised that his role is guided by principle rather than partisan allegiance, reaffirming his commitment to promoting a credible and effective opposition.

“Opposition politics is essential for democracy. If I’m here, it means I have genuine interest in Nigeria because I believe there must be opposition politics,” Momodu said.
