Ekiti PDP candidate blasts Oyebanji over governance failure

Ekiti PDP candidate Oluwole Oluyede criticises Governor Oyebanji’s administration, alleging poor development delivery in the state

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, has criticised the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, alleging that the All Progressives Congress-led government has failed to deliver meaningful development to residents of the state.

Oluyede said the Ekiti PDP criticism of the Oyebanji government was based on what he described as a widening gap between state resources and visible infrastructure development across communities.

He argued that Ekiti State deserved a government that prioritises citizens’ welfare and ensures public funds are translated into impactful projects that directly improve daily living standards.

According to him, the current administration has not demonstrated sufficient evidence of large-scale development that would justify high-level project commissioning visits by national leaders.

He expressed disappointment that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not visited the state to inaugurate any landmark project, suggesting this reflected a lack of substantial achievements on the ground.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult to point to a single landmark project in Ekiti that would warrant presidential commissioning,” Oluyede said.

He added that other states such as Lagos, Ogun, Enugu, Imo and Kaduna had recorded presidential visits within similar timelines for project inaugurations, which he said highlighted Ekiti’s perceived development gap.

Oluyede further claimed that key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education and youth empowerment had not seen significant transformation under the current administration.

He also alleged that several communities in the state continue to struggle with poor road networks, limited access to quality healthcare and inadequate economic opportunities.

However, the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State dismissed the claims.

The APC State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, described the comments as routine opposition criticism, insisting that the administration had delivered tangible development across the state.

Dipe said residents could see evidence of progress in road construction, improved electricity supply and timely salary payments, which he argued reflected good governance.

He also pointed to improved welfare for pensioners and retirees as further proof of the administration’s performance.

Dipe maintained that Governor Oyebanji has performed strongly and deserves a second term, adding that his relationship with President Bola Tinubu reflects confidence in his leadership.

The exchange highlights growing political tension in Ekiti State ahead of future electoral contests, with both major parties defending their records and positioning for voter support.
