Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Biennial Convention of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) in Enugu on Friday, Mbah called for greater trust and cooperation between government and the media to drive democracy and development, a cornerstone of effective Enugu governance media collaboration.
Mbah emphasised the crucial role the media plays in holding those in power accountable, describing both government and the media as “co-authors of Nigeria’s future.”
He advocated for more synergy between government and the media to build a society where progress is protected, justice is pursued, and every citizen feels seen and heard.
“Let us replace the distance with dialogue. Let us see intelligent critique as public service instead of hostility,” he urged.
The governor underscored the need for a media that is inclusive, gives voice to marginalised communities, and truly reflects the diversity of Nigeria’s people, rather than diluting or silencing dissent.
Mbah highlighted his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, citing the proactive opening of government books, processes, and policies to public examination.
He also emphasised the importance of inclusion and innovation in building a more just, progressive, and prosperous society.
Democratic governance cannot succeed without the participation, and interrogation, of an informed public.
The governor cited his administration’s projects, including the distribution of democracy dividends such as 260 Smart Green Schools, 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres, and 260 Farm Estates, all distributed on the basis of the 260 wards to ensure no part or segment of the state is left behind.
“Our vision is bold: a $30 billion economy driven by enterprise and accountable leadership,” Mbah stated, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to a prosperous and sustainable future for Enugu State.
The event, themed “Building a Secure and Cohesive Nigeria: The Role of Dialogue, Inclusion, and the Media,” underscored the critical importance of collaboration between government and the media in promoting democracy and sustainable development.
