Fintiri Insists Atiku Ties Intact After APC Defection

Fintiri Atiku ties remain intact, Adamawa governor says after APC defection, backing zoning and South’s eight-year presidency

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has declared that Fintiri Atiku ties remain intact despite his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who left the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress, said politics has not created a rift between him and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, both indigenes of Adamawa State.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television, the governor said personal relationships should not be confused with political alignments.

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri stated that his decision to join the ruling party does not affect his bond with Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku Abubakar, who served as Nigeria’s vice president from 1999 to 2007, is seeking the presidency again in 2027 and has aligned with the African Democratic Congress.

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said political actors are free to pursue different platforms while maintaining mutual respect.

On zoning, the governor backed the continuation of the informal North-South power rotation arrangement.

Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri argued that the South should complete eight years in office before power returns to the North.

President Bola Tinubu, who is from the South, is currently serving his first term.

According to the governor, a northerner should not contest the presidency at this stage if the country is committed to fairness and stability.
